Santa is coming to town!

Getting into the Christmas season it's time to make some layouts that go with it. When at the Flying Unicorn camp we got some delicious papers from Scrap75, who doesn't like the traditional colors for a Christmas layout. The Little Santa is on one of the flower arrangements I have around the house during the Holiday Season. Made that a couple of years ago.

For the layout I did some fuzzy cutting to give a little border around the picture. Of course no shortage of flowers and Christmas sprigs and berries.

The products used for this layout are: Paper : Scrap75, Flowers: Petaloo, Michaels & Prima, Stencils: TWC & 13@rts, Gesso/Gels/Splashs: 13@rts, Stamps: BoBunny. Stickers: Authentique.

Hope you're having a scrappy weekend! Thank you for looking1

Today's Memories!

Hello Paper peeps!

This November kit from Flying Unicorn is quite the winner. So many possibilities and so many color choices to pick from. For this one I had the perfect picture I took during our trip in The Netherlands. The flowers in our hotel room were this magnificent bouquet and the vase was beautiful too. As a scrapbooker of course we see a layout in everything so had to take a photo of it. So here it is.

Had some inspiration from the internet to create this layout and fits right in with all the paper tearing I've been doing with this kit.

Used products are: Paper: Scrap75, Chippies: Blue Fern & 2Crafty,  Title: Heidi Swapp, Flowers: Wild Orchid, Petaloo, Prima Marketing, Metal Ornament: Flying Unicorn. Stamps: Kaiserkraft, Prima. Tags: Prima, American Crafts.

Hope you have a crafty day! Thank you for looking!

Flying Unicorn - Creative Team Call!

Hello my fellow paper friends!

It's been a couple of exciting days since the post went up for the search for a new Creative Team member for Flying Unicorn. Can't believe it. It would be a dream come true to be part of my "Dream Team".

Ever since getting my first kit from Flying Unicorn it's been a constant surprise opening every package. The amount of product is just amazing and above anything else it's the quality. Something we all appreciate and care for immensely. Flying Unicorn is not just a shop, it's a community, it's a family and ever since joining that family it feels like being part of something bigger. One of the best moments was my turn to do a guest challenge on the forum. Everyone at Flying Unicorn is always so generous with their praise and support. Love being part of it.
It's my privilege to answer the call for an audition for the Creative Team.
Here are my select favorites!

The watering can was part of the April kit and we had some amazing examples from the girls in the Creative team. OTP's are a fun way to explore my creativity. Especially when you come up with something completely different. As long as I can use a flower on something I'm happy ;)!

Picking your favorite layout is not easy. Do I go for lots on the page, Mixed Media, Stamping, Flowers, Layering, all of the above. I guess that was the winner!

This layout was so much fun for me to make. A recent creation and made at the Flying Unicorn camp. I used basically all media to make this layout and since the picture has some of my favorite people on there, I hope it will do its magic.

Picking a third favorite should be a different category to show you what else I can do. Canvasses and Mixed Media has been a great way to explore my ability with all the messy stuff. Fun fact is that before Flying Unicorn I never used any of it.

Challenges have always been one of my favorite things to participate in with the Flying Unicorn family. It just pushes me to do better and to show all the things I've learned to date. The November Challenge is a gorgeous one and immediately got me raring to go!

There are so many other things within the craft that I like doing, but we were limited to 3, so here they are. I'm just addicted to playing with papers, textures, and new techniques, plain and simple. I think if you want to be in a creative team you kind of have to be. It would be so amazing, as well as one of my biggest dreams come true, to belong to the CT of Flying Unicorn.

I want to wish all my fellow artists good luck on their entries, and no matter the outcome I'll always be a member of the Flying Unicorn family.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog!
Have a happy scrappy day!

3 Christmas Cards Tutorial!

Good evening paper peeps!
Tonight I have a tutorial for you! Ha, I know, I don't do them all that much and in true Lydia fashion have forgotten to document maybe a step, but I'll try to guide you through this as best as I can.
For my set of 3 Christmas Cards I choose to do 3 different designs, mostly because I rarely make the same card and also to show you that with basically the same items you can create 3 totally different looks.
Here we go!
For the cardbase I had store bought cards from Michaels 5x6 1/2". I cut them a 1/4" shorter to accommodate me with the 6x6 papers I was using. In this case Prima: A Victorian Christmas. I cut 6x4 3/4" mats for each card.

For the center of the card I used the 2 matching Note cards that are also part of the Victorian Christmas Line.

For an extra detail I cut out wreaths in matching colors. This die is by Cozy Christmas - Yvonne Creations, but some of the Prima doily dies would work very nicely as well if you cut out the center. It always looks that extra little bit nicer when you ink the edges of your papers. I chose Jim Holtz Distress Ink-Vintage Photo. Now it's time to assemble your card with all your little extras you have around.

For this card I decided to place the wreath in the top left corner so the writing is still seen through the center and Mrs. Claus is also still visible. I placed a cut-of in the center of the card, stuck some card board under each layer to create an extra effect and used Prima: A Victorian Christmas flowers on the top of the wreath. A bow, a couple of leaves and voila, the first card is almost done.

Card two has a whole different look. I cut the wreath in two and stuck it in the center with a gap. Used some of the Prima Trim:Cours Mirabeau Floral lace on either side, some ribbon, A Prima: A Victorian Christmas-Rudolphs Nose and Petalo-Botanica Collection flower on either side, some leaves and nuer 2 is almost done!

I tied a green ribbon around the top Note Card and stuck it off set on the second one. I stuck the wreath over the top Note card and slid it under the ribbon. Placed some flowers around the ribbon with some leaves and berries and there is number 3 almost done.

For some extra details I added some gesso here and there and stickles, just to make your card pop that little bit more.

Here is a close-up of the finished cards!

A little bling goes a long way, doesn't it.

And number 3 up close.

As you can see, although they started out pretty much the same, because of placement and changing around a few flowers cards can look completely different.

I hope you liked this little tutorial. If you have any questions, just drop me a line at lydia.guijt@live.com and I'll try to help as much as I can.

These little beauties are soon leaving for a couple of Flying Unicorn ladies for our Christmas Card Exchange. I'm so looking forward to receiving some gorgeous home-made Christmas cards this year.
Will be quite the change, since I'm normally the one who makes them.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog! Hope you had fun!
Have a scrappy fun day!

Love this moment!

Hello Scrapbook fans, a new month a new Flying Unicorn kit. I just love them, always so many goodies in the. The papers this month are versatile, from reds to blue's to yellows and greens. We've got them all.

This pic is a fun one, my sister, cousin and me went to Amsterdam for the afternoon/evening and we took public transportation part of the way. I have to say that was quite the experience. Just finding the right station can be a problem on it's own. Adds to the fun in the end though and makes for great memories.

For this layout the products used: Paper: Studio 75, Flowers: Petaloo and Prima, Lace: Prima, Cheese cloth. String. Metal Ornament: Prima.

Best of Times!

Almost there paper fans! I'm almost up to date, it is a miracle.

At camp I got a couple of pieces of paper from one of our own Flying Unicorn Design Team awesome ladies. Erica Cunningham Houghton & her Mom Robin Cunningham were a lot of fun to be around with. Saw some stunning pieces of art being made right in front of me.

This layout I made at my return home, guess the creativity just came home with me.
The two other girls in the photo are two of my favorite people in the world, so it's extra special.

The products used in this layout, Paper: Authentique, Flowers: Petaloo and Prima, Lace: Heather Thompson!, Chippies: Creative Embellishments,

Thank you for looking! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, it's almost over!

Picture Perfect! Special Day!

Hello scrapbook friends!
Part two of playing catch up with this backlog of layouts.
These two are made with the beautiful October Flying Unicorn Kit. I had so much fun playing around with this. Best part was, I did this at the Flying Unicorn camp. Not that they just happened out of thin air, but I truly believe creativity was floating in the air.

Love this layout with my sister. We don't see each other enough. Luckily she visited me last year here in the U.S. and this year hubbie gave me a ticket for my 50th to visit my home country.

The second layout is of me in Amsterdam. My Sister & Cousin went there for a fun evening and forgot what a beautiful city it really is.

The used products are Paper by 7 Dots, Chippies: Creative Embellishments and 2Crafty, Flowers: Prima and Petaloo, Bling: Flying Unicorn.

Thank you for looking! More to come soon!

Sky is the Limit! Soulmates!

Can you believe it suddenly 2 months have come and gone. It's been a whirlwind, and before I knew it I was just way way way behind on posting on my blog.
In September I had a fabulous trip to my home country. Visited so many family and friends. Nine days is just not enough time to do everything. I just had a ball.
In October it was finally there. The Flying Unicorn Camp and what a fun and exciting time was had by all. The inspiration was just flowing in the air and the 2 layouts below were a result of that.

Products used, Paper: 7 Dots, Chipboard: 2Crafty, Flowers: Prima, Petaloo, Metalware: Prima, Raffia courtesy of Jennifer Olek Snyder!
